THE ONLY WAY: Getting Rid of the Slums and the Homeless

If we want to “get rid” of slums and homeless people, we have to ask ourselves a few questions:
Who are these people?
Where did they come from?
Where are we going to send them?
How did they get here?
Is their situation their fault, or our collective fault?
What kind of consciousness causes slums and homeless people to exist?
I believe when someone wants to “get rid” of slums and homeless people (by sending them to some desert island?) it is because they remind us of how little love and compassion our society has for others.
Sure, we can blame them for their plight — but it is too simplistic to believe they alone caused their own situation.
“The poor” come from Empire Consciousness, with its message of shame, hierarchy and scarcity.
When we make people slaves, we take away their wholeness, dignity and worth. In a classist culture, there always has to be a bottom, someone to look down upon. Empire leads those stuck in it to guilt and shame about racism, sexism, religious persecution and all other hierarchies.
Slums and homeless encampments are signs that Empire Consciousness destroys, separates, and discriminates. Empire people who have way more than enough don’t want to see what their consciousness has created.
It is getting rid of the evidence. Perhaps immigrants, the poor, the outcasts, the homeless are too hard to face. Fear, shame and guilt are always part of Empire.
Oneness Consciousness, the belief in abundance and compassion, seeing the Oneness of all of humankind, all creatures and the earth will eliminate poverty, hatred, division, and suffering.
It is THE ONLY WAY.
